Tips for Being a Better Art Lovers Seller

1. Create Art Business specific social media page(s)

You should be treating your art practice as a small business.

So make sure you have specific and dedicated Facebook and Instagram pages only for your artworks. The last thing a potential buyer for your artwork wants to see is your holiday pics from your last trip away.

2. Link all social media back to your Art Lovers shop

Make it easier for your audience.

Because there is so much to see and buy on the internet, when you have someone discover your artwork, you need to make it easy for them to find and buy. Otherwise they can be easily distracted and led elsewhere to buy someone else’s work.

Plus….as a bonus if you have links back from your social media accounts/pages to your Art Lovers Australia shop, it improves your chances of Art Lovers Australia posting your work on our social media pages.

3. Use professional photos of yourself

Look the part and make sure you have professional photos of you as an artist, at work in your studio and with your artwork.

Rek Artist Profile

Artist: Rob Rek

This brings us back to treating your art practice as a business. Using images of you bushwalking, sipping cocktails, on holiday at the beach etc. in your profile picture does not instill confidence in your buyers and naturally they will move on to a more professional artist they can have faith in that they take their art seriously when it comes to purchasing artwork.

Ask your partner or a friend to take some picture if you don’t want to pay for a professional photographer, just make sure you have and use pictures of you as an artist.

4. Treat your shop as a gallery and exhibition

Your artist’s shop is the place to showcase your artwork for buyers to see. So be sure and treat it as if your holding an exhibition of your artworks.

Group series of works that sit well together, display consistency of your work and don’t just upload anything and everything you have created. The last thing you want to do is undermine the artwork your proudest of, by having it sit with a random sketchbook drawing or painting that you put up on whim that isn’t particularly strong or good.

5. Word your profile like a professional

When writing about yourself make sure you are talking about you and your art in the third person. It helps with Google search and if a buyer can find you easily enough the more likely you are to sell.

ALSO..

Keep it short and sweet. Be careful not too ‘waffle on’ and go into too much detail when writing your bio as it can get in the way of a buyer while they are eager to buy. Plus it pushes all your artworks further down the page and out of sight for the buyer. If they get tired of reading a long bio they will never get down to your artworks.

6. Do not use all capitals in you artwork titles

We know you want to stand out in the crowd, and using all capital letters in your artwork title may draw more attention to your artwork. BUT it lessens your exposure.

Google logarithms hate titles with all capitals and product feeds for Facebook, Google etc. will actually omit any artwork with these when re-marketing.
