Contemporary abstract seascape painter Patricia Walsh is based on the NSW North Coast. She draws inspiration from the extraordinary beauty of Byron Bay. “The works explore the constant shifts in the landscape that I observe and absorb whilst in the midst of nature, surrounded by dramatic coastlines and the elements that shape them”.
Charcoal drawings and small studies made onsite, become the ground work for larger drawings and paintings created (in oil or acrylic) in the studio. “Each painting resonates with stories of the Australian coast as I respond to the sounds, windswept seas, rain, rocky outcrops, changing light, salt spray – the drama, the energy, the freedom”.
“My art practice remains contemporary and dynamic – exploring possibilities and risks. My working method echoes the elements impacting the landscape – a process that explores surface, shape, texture, movement and space, line and tone. An intuitive approach is followed by a considered process of discernment and refinement, in order to express sensory impressions to the audience of being within the landscape :
“…to feel as though you have chanced upon the edges of something quite intangible”.
