Melbourne artist Matthew Simpson paints abstract canvases of forms built up from lines.
Matthew Simpson is a visual artist. He mainly paints in oil on canvas. He has held a long interest in the design element of line in artwork. This interest has distilled to a point where many paintings only contain the line of brushstrokes. Lines come in many forms‚ the brush stoke‚ the mark‚ calligraphy. Simpson loves the way the patterns of lines build up‚ they merge from fields into traces of energy. Simpson is interested in the harmonies and the joining of form and the different scales at which the lines form pattern.
Matthew Simpson studied painting at the VCA 1985-87 and multimedia at RMIT in 1999-2000.
