My work Is multi layered and textured.
I am inspired by poetry, philosophy and music and often write within the layers of colour.
Materials and surfaces interest me.
I have a fascination with decay, the random marks and patinas objects often show as a history of use or age.
People interest me.
I am intrigued by the human condition, measuring the depth of experiences that mark me, investigating and somehow cleansing them through the practice of my art.
Whether or not you find them beautiful is subjective.
The beauty for me is in the observation of these stains, and the understanding that comes to me as I make them the focus of my practice.
I am seeking the stillness that certain abstract works can generate when they resist the urge for premeditation, when they come from a place of honesty, and vulnerability. A quintessentially human place.
There is a lot going on under the surface of these paintings; many layers of paint…a few lies and some big truths
I dance with them for weeks, they tell me when they’re done and arrive here for your perusal.
Thank you for looking, for taking the time to read this.
