Art like life is a constantly evolving experiment and work in progress
Art by definition to me is making your own choices, defining your boundaries or throwing them out completely – flouting – being in control, losing control, luxuriating in following a whim and surviving that sinking feeling when its not going as imagined to come back to it with refreshed determination to bend it to your will and the joy of surprising results that unintentionally appear. My artwork reflects my lifestyle; a headlong freefall journey into the unanticipated and unexpected. I race as time allows, though there’s never enough, between paint to printing, mosaic occasionally and sculpture with a side turn at drawing. Ceramics occasionally get a look in then its always back to paint with a preference for oils. Inspiration and sustenance is drawn from the outdoors, particularly the love and uniqueness of the Australian bush with an insatiable desire to capture the light, that fleeting glimpse and contemplative moment in time when you are moved – compelled to capture it.
Always, the next (or often 4) ideas are bubbling away, itching to emerge and take shape, competing with the necessities of daily life/work, while the ‘in progress’ sit, still uncompleted (there are so many). The bottom line I try to remind myself when its not going to plan is that the real joy is in the process, immersed, as time stands still heedless of the ever ticking clock, transported within another realm of timelessness that zeros in, creating the happy space we all hope for.
Highlights of 2019 art include featuring in Home Design Magazine Vol 22, and March 2020 selection featuring in master bedroom – Selling Houses Australia Crows Nest episode, coincidentally celebrating their 100th house sale – the champagne flowed.
