Karen lives and works in Bega, NSW, surrounded by mountains, rivers, National Parks, big skies, lagoons and beautiful beaches. Nature inspires and delights her and the natural world tends to be what she paints, using watercolours, acrylics and mixed media on paper and canvas. She also enjoys designing and carving lino-block prints, which she handcolours using acrylic, gouache or pencil. She paints what she sees, expressing in myriad ways what moves her, focusing on colour and detailed brushstrokes as a pictorial narrative of her pursuit of – and appreciation of – beauty in the natural world. Karen has been focused on creating and painting harmonious, inspirational gardens for over 30 years and she has an appreciation for pattern, colour and graceful form developed over these decades of close observation.
Karen has studied visual art at the School of Art, ANU, Canberra in the 1990s and in the studios and workshops of practising artists in SE NSW. Her paintings can be found in private collections in Australia and the United States. Commissions of botanicals, the natural world or still lifes are always welcomed by Karen.
