About Karen Sedaitis

I am a self-taught artist living and painting in Bega, NSW, surrounded and inspired by National Parks, big skies and beautiful beaches. I have been painting full time for the past year, directing my time, my talents and my passion towards what I love. What I have found is that the beauty I see in the natural world is what most powerfully connects me to joy and moves me to feeling.

I paint, draw, carve lino-blocks or observe the natural world every day because seeking what is beautiful provides my life with meaning and inspiration. Through my own creative process I learn what connects humans to each other on a deeper, intuitive level and this process of discovery quickens and delights me.

I am currently using watercolours, acrylics and mixed media on paper, canvas and wood. I also design and carve lino-block prints, which I handcolour using acrylic, gouache or pencil. I will be painting with oils this year and I also hope to find a way of learning how to create stained glass images.

I paint using detailed brushstrokes as a pictorial narrative of my pursuit of – and appreciation of – beauty in the natural world. I have been focused on drawing & painting flowers, trees, landscapes and gardens for over 30 years in my work as a horticulturist and landscape designer and I have an appreciation for pattern, colour and form developed over these decades of close observation.

I have studied visual art at the School of Art, ANU, Canberra in the 1990s and in the studios and workshops of practising artists in SE NSW. My paintings can be found in collections in Australia and the United States and on Instagram @karenincolour.

Commissions of botanicals, the natural world or still lifes are always welcomed at karensed@bigpond.com.
