“When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”
Painting usually involves applying wet medium to canvas where it dries and where it remains. My paintings behave in a less expected way. I am fascinated by the idea that paint can have a life of its own. As such, I paint onto substrates that allow for the subsequent removal of the paint when dry. This enables exploration with placement of the individual fragments and allows the painting to evolve like a puzzle.
I was born in the UK settling in Australia in 2005 after spending the previous 17 years moving internationally multiple times. My life has been a patchwork of cultures and this plays out in my desire to fragment my work. I hold a BFA (Curtin University, Perth) and my artworks are held in private collections in Australia, the UK, the USA, Sweden, Austria and Canada.
I have exhibited in New York, Italy and Sweden as well as in Melbourne, and I have been a finalist in a number of Art Prizes. My work features in various publications including my own book ‘Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic’ (Schiffer Publishing, USA, 2017).
