Additional Information

This painting was inspired by the incredible views while on a 3 day hike (Routeburn track) which wound its way through part of the south Island of New Zealand near Queenstown. I aimed to capture the elemental clarity and vastness of the wilds found there by recreating the shimmering hues of the crystal clear water, the light playing off the ancient rocks underneath the deep canopy of Beech trees, and a sliver of the majestic mountains off in the distance opening up to an endless sky.

The brush strokes in this painting are loose and impressionistic, offering movement and a deeply textured surface the photo wont show. As light moves across the thick surface, the viewer sees aspects of the painting shift and change, creating a dynamic experience depending on what time of day the original image is viewed. Artist signature is on the front, bottom left hand corner and on the back.
