Additional Information

This is a “stream of consciousness” painting. I often begin a work by making random marks on the canvas and allowing my unconscious mind to do the work. This is easier said than done, since there is always (for me, anyway) a temptation to try and dominate the painting. When I first began to work in this way I didnt really know what I was saying. The more I have delved into though, the more that I understand I am expressing an allegory of life. We are led to believe that life should be prescriptive, and if we do all the right things at the right time, everything will work out just fine. The truth is that life is chaotic and complex and often we are dished up random experiences that somehow we have to make sense of. We have to find a way of balancing our own life compositions.

What Sits in The Field is a large vibrant oil painting, varnished and ready to hang. It is an original work which took many hours to complete. In it I try to capture all the elements in duality – finished, unfinished, perfect, imperfect, formed, unformed. Its a symbolic work and what I enjoy is hearing how different people project their own meanings into it. Everyone sees different things. I worked as a hypnotherapist for years, and you could say this painting is a product of trance .. and invites the viewer to spend time just looking. The more you look, the more you see.
