Venice Canal,

The Grand Canal is a channel in Venice, Italy. It forms one of the major water-traffic corridors in the city.

Usually they’re one to two metres deep, but there are exceptions: the Canal Grande, Venice’s main canal gets over three metres deep in some points and most canalsthat go around Venice are at least ten metres deep, if not more.

There are, in fact, 150 canals running through Venice, which makes the city a collection of tiny islands connected by bridges and walkways.

The purpose of the canal system was to avoid flooding and create drainage. Despite this system Venice still floods. All through the city there are wooden poles which mark the water level.
