In 2012 I travelled to Myanmar after the country opened its borders to the West after more than half a century of military rule. Shortly after I published a pictorial Burma: The Jewel of Asia, “Impressions from Yangon”. Snapshots from the former capital Yangon, life on the backstreets, as well as portraits and images of colonial buildings, remnants of the times under British rule. In 2014 I returned to Myanmar and travelled to other parts of the country exploring the rich cultural diversity and mind-blowing landscapes of the “Golden country”. Old Bagan is a UNESCO World Heritage site. During the kingdom’s height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2,200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day. This image is one of many I took and shows a breathtaking panorama of this historically important site. UNESCO World Heritage Temple Site, Old Bagan, Myanmar is an award winning image.
