Additional Information

The White Peacock is the name of the gown I designed and created for very successful creative collaboration with one of Australia’s, most highly awarded and recognised art photographers at an international level, Vicky Papas-Vergara.  Vicky and I decided we should meet and collaborate after we both independently became aware and excited by each other’s work.  Vicky has made her name creating masterful photographic images of women in gowns and costumes she normally designs and creates herself.  They are spectacularly ornate and creative usually made of fabric and mixed media and while she had used paper flowing and scrolling from a roll, she had never created a gown from paper.  It was an excited prospect for both of us as I had never before applied my sculpture to a subject of this sort to be worn, but the inspiration for my design still came from nature.  I turned to a concept based on a peacock because they are one of nature’s most spectacular of all birds.  I wanted the feathers to look light and delicate, so I chose a Japanese Kozo mulberry fibre of only 30gsm, less than half the weight of common Reflex copy paper. It’s strong but very thin and translucent.  Vicky painted Sylph Sia, the model, body and worked her hair so she looked like sculpturesque and then lit the gown from underneath taking full advantage of the paper’s translucence.  The result  lead to a series of photos we’ve just named White Peacock 1, White Peacock 2, and so on.  To add a cherry to the collaboration, Vicky’s image of #1 won her the Gold Award at the Las Vegas gala presentation of the Wppi awards, USA in February this year of 2018.  The prints are strictly limited to a run of 20 each with each numbered and signed by both artists.  They are beautifully presented in a deep white satin frame with a bevel matching white mount.  Printed with the highest quality archival materials, assuring our buyers an enduring investment.
