Additional Information

When I see these scissors and hold them in my hands, I immediately connect to my mother.  I can almost hear the sound of the snipping dressmakers scissors. I have recently begun a series of still life work, which is a new theme in my practise. I have based the works on the social media craze of the ‘flat lay’ in which the image is viewed from a topographical position. My work often explores themes of the nuances of being a woman and a mother which often includes the use of symbols in my paintings. The objects in my paintings may hold memories for the viewer of many things, for me, they hold many important memories. My desire in my painting is to capture the emotion in a moment, hoping to capture a personal connection. Nest, string and stone represents the strength of family, the nest represents comfort, safety and love, the stone represents grounding and connection, the string holds everything together. My paintings are created on a ruffled tablecloth, which represents a real life, not a perfect, pristinely curated ‘Instagram’ life, but a real life of ups and downs, imperfect, loveable days and precious messy moments. How strange it is that by holding an object, we can be transported to a time and place.
My painting comes ready to hang, fitted with d-hooks and string. There is no need to frame, but should it be your personal preference, a ‘shadow box’ style frame in dark timber, brown or black would suit.
My art is transported in a lightweight, secure wooden box for travel protection and safety. Feel free to retain the box for future transport/use. Every care is taken to make sure the artwork arrives to you safe and sound.
