Additional Information

The Greek myth, Leda and the Swan has been immortalized in paintings and sculptures in varying forms over the centuries – A story

depicting the god Zeus in the form of a swan deceiving and seducing the beautiful Leda.

The Italian Renaissance presented the story with erotic overtones, Leonardo de Vinci produced drawings of the tale and recently an

ancient fresco of Ledo and the Swan has been found at an archeological site in Pompeii.

I have chosen the figure Leda in my work to be standing, fawning advances by Zeus the Swan.

The sensuality of this composition is what I love the most, the curves of Leda’s figure embracing the elegance of the swan’s neck, the rhythm of her cloak

mirroring the movement of the swan’s wings.

I purposely used mixed media in this piece to emphasis sensuality of line with charcoal marks and dramatic tones of the underpainting adding highlights

to this mythical world.

The mischievous Putti are represented in the shadows trying their best to protect leda while the gaze of unseen entities peer through within the scene.

Painted in acrylic, oil and charcoal on canvas and framed with a professional gallery style floating frame in white timber.
