I’ve always been a bit rebellious, and despite people telling me that my work should stick to a certain style, I do like to take journeys in different directions from time to time. Here’s a little number I painted a couple of years ago and recently updated to improve the composition. It did begin the usual way, and morphed, as some of them do, into something more articulated.

The One You Feed refers to the old Native American tale of the child asking his Grandfather about the two wolves inside of him, always fighting. He asks which one wins, to which his Elder replies, “the one you feed”. And so it is, with our thoughts and actions – what we practice gets stronger, be it kindness, love, or the opposite. I draw on my spiritual learnings through Buddhism and others (I’m not religious, just curious and seeking wisdom from ancient teachings wherever I might meet them). The deep teals, turquoise, viridian and pthalo greens are just yummy if you ask me …
