Additional Information

The Joy of Puddles is an original watercolour painting. I recently put a small portfolio of illustration work together for a submission to a children’s book publisher. I found a fabulous reference photograph on a copyright free site (photo credit German TR) while preparing my portfolio. Unfortunately, I was unable to develop a character from this at the time, or even complete this piece. I loved the story I could see. What a bundle of energy she is! She looks down at her puddle and though we can’t see her eyes from the angle, we can see her joy. This little girl is moments from landing her first jump, airborne and moments away from squelchy sandals and splattered clothes. The pure joy of a child at play.

I’m keen to paint a series of children jumping in puddles, blowing bubbles, doing the things we did as children and maybe should do now! I’m definitely going to do some more figurative pieces with children as subjects. I can vicariously enjoy a second childhood, even if I stop short at jumping in puddles.

The Joy Of Puddles is an unframed watercolour created on acid free Saunders Waterford Hot Press watercolour paper using artist quality watercolour paints. Size is A4. It will need to be framed and should be hung out of direct sunlight.
