This is a painting part of a series on Hanging Rock in Victoria, Australia.
There is something haunting and mystical about this place, and its not just because of the movie.
I’m inspired by the shapes of the stones and the rocks and the abstract patterns in the landscape.
My work and style is influenced by expressionism. I’m interested in the way colour, shapes, textures and patterns create inner emotions, rather than trying to depict realism. Colours invoke emotions and internal reactions that transport us from the mundane and verges on the spiritual.
I have been told that my painting has a uniquely Australian style. I’m not sure what that is, but I’m very much influenced by Sidney Nolan, Fred Williams, Arthur Boyd, Margret Preston and especially the Australian Indigenous artist – Emily Kame Kngwarreye.
The more I look into the Australian landscape the more I start to see what Indigenous Australians have seen for centuries, however I feel Im only touching the surface.
When I look in silence I start to feel the landscape a living, breathing being and this is what I hope to capture in my art.
