Additional Information

The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, which starts about 200km north of Adelaide. It stretches for over 430km from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna. For most settlers in the 1800's it was very attractive for farming. However, unseasonal droughts turned the landscape into a dustbowl in less than 10 years. The majority abandoned their cottages to move on to greener pastures. Remnants of these times remain scattered across and around the Flinders Ranges. A truly remarkable landscape of geological and geographical significance. Ruins of Settlers Cottage 1/2 is one of many places and is a testament of extreme and harsh conditions settlers had to endure. This image is one of a series of two.
