Additional Information

Reflections is part of an ongoing subject I love to paint and draw in the Bellingen district in NSW. Abstract Australian river landscape in mixed media on deep canvas ready to hang.

The local waterholes and Never Never River are a constant source of inspiration due to is moody atmosphere of deep brooding shadows broken by slashes of blue green light penetrating the foliage along its banks and smoothe arrangement of boulders.

Its an enchanting place and lives up to its Peter Pan namesakes of Never Never River and The Promised Land.

This landscape in mixed media has gone through many processes to arrive at its abstracted form. The underpainting was thickly applied in deep tones in an impressionist style with areas of collage added then more acrylic glazing layers also applied.   Finally selecting areas to erase with abrasive materials, adding back in the odd line and shadow before adding a final clear varnish.

What the final painting is left with is the essence of intense and mottled reflective light on the water which is the sheer charm of this delightful place.
