Additional Information

Red Wattlebird Forest – Contemporary watercolour on extra thick cotton paper. This work featuring a native Australian Red Wattlebird in a forest scene is inspired by the wild overgrown gardens in my local urban neighbourhood. Botanical elements include; vines, ferns and eucalyptus in beautiful hues of blues, greys, greens and Ivory/cream.

I have always been fascinated with natural history books/antique botanical illustrations, and this painting is a modern take on the captivating work of those early illustrators such as Gould and Audubon. This painting is from a larger body of work I am currently exploring, the works in this series focus on the unique characteristics of watercolour as a drawing medium – it’s flexibility, fluidity and somewhat random/spontaneous role in image making. My intention is to keep the work in the spirit of a sketch and to capture the fleeting nature of my subject matter.

Painted onto Extra thick cotton paper. Sold Unframed for easy and safe shipping.
