Additional Information

The Paradise Parrot was the inspiration behind this work. This beautiful parrot became extinct in the 1920s after extensive land clearing and the destruction of it’s favoured nesting ground, the termite mound (used to make tennis courts in the 1900s). My focus increasingly centres on environmental concerns, with birds as emblematic of the fragility of the environment. In this drawing I have used traditional portrait painting devices to create a sense of the ‘spotlight’ on the parrot, highlighting it’s luminosity. This work functions as a memento of loss for a species we will never see again.

This artwork took over 25 hours to create with many layers of colour laid down. This luminous drawing has been meticulously created using archival light fast Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d’Arche Luminance colour pencils on acid free Bristol vellum paper. These materials are all of the highest artist quality, ensuring your investment will last a lifetime.

Framing can be organised for an additional cost of approximately $300 for a simple white mat/white moulding. Please allow an extra two weeks for this customised service. If you would prefer something different, please consult with Art Lovers Australia. All work is professionally packaged to ensure it reaches you in pristine condition.
