Paradise for the Australian White Ibis, lovingly referred around here as the Bin Chicken, must be the Gold Coast.  Not only do we have wonderful wetlands for them, but also lots of fast food outlets. I have decided that as runner-up in the Australian Bird of the Year Poll (just edged out by the Magpie), the Bin Chickens deserved a portrait. So here it is.

This painting is  a bit different to my usual way of working.  As with the rest of my current work, it started out with vibrant flowing patterns of poured lithographic ink.  In this case I really liked the crazy patterns that the fluid ink made and I wanted to preserve as much as I could, so I kept the stenciling part of my process to a minimum, and just created the tropical treeline of palms in the sunset.  This painting was recently a finalist in the inaugural Morris Art Prize.
