Offkey

‘OffKey’ is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas.  It is the second of a series of ‘key’ ideas that I have painted and it is in acrylic and mixed media (i.e. a music score on paper and charcoal).

A friend sent me a photo of the kookaburras that sit on their windowsill each evening waiting to be fed, which gave me the idea of this subject. ‘Offkey’ is a lively painting of a group of kookaburras singing amongst the gum leaves. Keys hang from a branch and there is a musical score just visible in the background.

The music score, which is in the background, was glued to the canvas and then I painted the bunch of keys.

Next I painted in the kookaburras interacting amongst the foliage.  The birds have open beaks as if in song giving the composition a touch of humour as the birds interact together.

The sides of the painting are 4 cm deep and painted in blue black.

The painting has my initials in the right hand corner and is also signed in full at the back of the painting.

There are D rings and a wire – ready for hanging
