Additional Information

Nightfall is a beautifully rendered large drawing on heavy watercolour paper. It requires framing. Over tireless hours, the surface has been built up with multiple layers of artist quality colour pencil to create a work that is luminous with colour and pattern. In all of my artwork I aim to evoke the magic of nature; its beauty, patterns and textures. ‘Nightfall’ is close to my heart as it’s about love and protection.
The instinct to protect the young is strong in most species, including birds and is the inspiration behind this beautifully layered work on paper. Three birds fill the page with a simple backdrop of a moon, stars and abstracted hanging leaves.
The bird’s plumage is meticulously rendered with careful colour layering over many hours. Patterns reminiscent of modernist textile/surface design are dynamically balanced throughout the composition. The colour pencils I use are the finest quality artist grade and completely lightfast and archival (Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran d’ache Luminance), on heavy (640gm) 100% cotton rag watercolour paper (Canson Heritage).
