*** TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE – AT EXHIBITION NOVEMBER 7th-10th – AT MOUNT COOT-THA BOTANIC GARDENS, BRISBANE ***

Most mornings here in Brisbane, I wake up to the songs of neighbourhood magpies as they greet the dawn. Along with the kookaburra’s laugh, the magpie’s song is one of my favourite sounds in Australian nature.

This Magpie is painted in watercolours on Arches fine art paper, with salt textures creating the feathers on the body, and shades of blue in the plumage reflecting the blue of the surrounding floral pattern.
I added the blue grevilleas for extra interest – as an iconic Australian flower that also grows in my garden.

It is said that Magpies are spiritual messengers. I hope that the balance of the dark and light in the magpie’s feathers, the intricate abstract textures, and the blue tones of the floral designs all inspire contemplation of the natural world around us.

This artwork is FRAMED in a simple yet stunning silvery-black frame, with a complementary light-blue double matt.
Ready to hang in your home or office.

Artwork dimensions: 40x27cm.
Framed art size: 54.5 cm wide x 42cm tall.
