Additional Information

Love Song is an Encaustic artwork with image transfer of Blue Faced Honeyeaters, featuring 22c gold leaf, on cradled panel, and is ready to hang.  It is created using encaustic (hot beeswax), image transfer, 22c gold leaf. I am inspired by the beautiful birds that visit my garden.   Encaustic is an ancient 2000+ year old medium, most known on the Fayum Mummy Portraits.  It is part of a series of Australian Native Birds using the image transfer technique in encaustic medium.  The photographs of the birds are my own original work. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique, dating back 2000+ years to the Greeks, who used wax to caulk ship hulls. Pigmenting the wax gave rise to the decorating of warships. Perhaps the best known of all encaustic work are the Fayum funeral portraits painted in the 1st through 3rd centuries A.D. by Greek painters in Egypt. A portrait of the deceased painted either in the prime of life or after death, was placed over the person’s mummy as a memorial. These are the only surviving encaustic works from ancient times.
