Original Artwork. Inspired by a Roman Legend. This piece is based upon the mystery of the Ninth Roman Legion, all of whom disappeared into the wilds of Scotland past Hadrian’s wall. In Rosemary Sutcliffe’s book The Eagle of The Ninth, a young man goes in search of the Legion’s Standard- an Eagle. Historians have several theories as to the Legion’s whereabouts- from their being killed by local tribes to voluntarily disbanding and going home.
