Additional Information

This sphere made using selectively sourced Kangaroo vine collected from Gulaga, Mount Dromedary, the Mother Mountain, sacred to the Indigenous people of the South Coast.

I work with this mountain, which sits behind the village of Tilba Tilba, in its environment, in place, its forest, its trees, ferns and the beautiful cool stream, mainly in the Winter months, when i find its Nature to be at her best.

This is the first sphere to come from her vine forest, or vinery, as i call it. Collecting the vine from the wild, untamed forest…it took a couple of trips and i weaved the sphere at my home in Mystery Bay, weaving the sphere tight, solid, so the form lasts and is strong.

Spending time on the Mother Mountain is special to me, as it has been for the Aboriginals since for ever…i become absorbed in the surrounds, the spirit of place and Nature, the feeling of belonging, you cannot ignore it. This i love and find that time slips into a harmony that is hard to explain. Working is a pleasurable experience, but it is hard work and you have to keep your wits about you, snakes, spiders, leaches, mosquitoes, fly’s and uneven ground can be a challenge.

But that is the art of Nature…

This Gulaga sphere is created from those elements and environment, and carry’s the spirit of place within.

The solid sphere measures aprox. 550mm diameter. It can be hung or placed in the home, balcony or outside, becoming part of that environment.
