Additional Information

From my background as a field biologist in the early days, I love birds and am concerned with the loss of habitat and climate change, which is affecting their survival. Recently, I have been involved in a Landcare exhibition highlighting the demise of Grey Box Woodland forests. While the Yellow Rosellas are found in Tasmania and not NSW, I also paint birds to study them.

My twist on painting the birds is to suggest in the background what may be the cause of their decline. In Yellow Rosella in Red, the red is blood possibly from feral animals (cats) preying upon them.

Original painting

Canvas with oil paint and beeswax on hardwood stretchers.
