Additional Information

When the bottle brush tree blooms in my front yard the first few days the flowers are almost electric in colour.  Using multiple mediums I have tried to capture the dazzling display of this initial excitement with a combination of traditional gouache, combined with oil pastel and machine embroidery.  The result is modern, bold and energising with a dash of detailed surprise.

Painted with professional grade gouache on Arches 100% Cotton Watercolour Paper.  The artwork has then been detailed with free machine embroidery into the blooms to create an interesting relief of shadow and thread.  The paper has rag edges which eludes to the idea of almost being created on fabric.  It has been framed in a darker wood, and float mounted to enhance the quality of the work.
