The sea is an ever changing subject with endless possibilities. This artwork deconstructs the seascape until it is an abstraction of wild ducks casting their shadows on the water. The layering is extremely thick and the black echoes the ducks skimming the water. I obsessed over Hemingway’s words as I painted this piece, “The clouds were building up now for the trade wind and he looked ahead and saw a flight of wild ducks etching themselves against the sky over the water, then blurring, then etching again and he knew no man was ever alone on the sea.” The sea offers belonging and life, it is never a lonely experience. This piece offers a complex theme.
It is an original. It is an oil on canvas. It is ready to hang. This piece loves natural light. This piece swims above the rest.
