Additional Information

This oil painting combines both landscape and still life.  I had been working on a series of landscapes both drawings and paintings of the Urunga Wetlands.  It is such a visual feast for an artist in this location when the light hits the white tea trees, mimicking their reflections in the lake, coupled with the surrounding native vegetation and plethora of waterbirds. Oil painting in a loose impressionist style painted on a deep canvas.

I made a play on the perspective of the landscape by introducing the still life of fruit in the foreground.

The environment in the wetlands is so overwhelmingly beautiful I figured all it needed was a symbolic gesture of the fruit to suggest nature’s bounty, hence the title, “Cornucopia”.
