I am exploring new themes in my work, based around the traditional ‘Still Life’ I have added my own contemporary twist. Looking at social media for inspiration, I have painted these works in a ‘flat lay’ style, viewing the still life from a topographical position. Whilst observing the modern desire to ‘curate’ our personal imagery to somehow indulge in a personal fantasy, suggesting that our real lives are not ‘insta worthy’.
As I explore this new method of story telling in my practise, I’m finding the use of symbology quite intriguing. Each object I paint hold a personal memory, and resonance, and yet, these same objects have a universal symbolism and human connection. We all make choices. What would satisfy you?  How would you choose to line your nest? We can have everything, but rarely all at once. Its up to you to choose your happiness.

Making choices in our lives is often complex, yet, given a choice, what would you choose?
