The Erg Chebbi in Southern Moroco is the gateway to the Sahara desert. The Sahara covers about a third of the African continent. It is difficult to understand how any living being can survive in these harsh conditions. Yet for thousands of years people have managed to survive with the help of camels. They are still a very important means of transport to cover vast distances to this day. Their endurance and adaptability have made them the perfect desert ships. They survive for weeks without water. The image was taken at sunset. Just as I was looking into the distance I spotted a camel caravan. The sand dunes with their soft shadows combined with the light produced this awesome image. Caravan in the Desert. An award winning image.
