Beneath its Reign is a testament to the inspiration I find in gardens. As a lover of nature, but living in the city, I observe people’s gardens as I go for my exercise walks. They bring peace and tranquillity apart from a serene balance to city living. One garden near my former gallery caught my attention and inspired me with its magnificent, tall, smooth, white Lemon Scented Eucalypt. It stands like a hand reaching triumphantly skyward, reigning over and defending a mostly native garden, where amongst other things, stands a stout Grass Tree, Kangaroo Paws, Melaleuca and a single very attractive, Japanese Maple that seems quite out of place. Of course, the kingdom of this tree is attended by many birds and butterflies so I had to somehow represent them too. The animals bring motion picture stories to gardens and just add to the reward of surrounding ourselves with them.
Created in special handmade papers. Most of the stocks used here are mulberry fibre Asian paper but the core amateur, is as usual for my work made of Hahnemuhle 300 (NOT) cotton mould-made paper because it is very pliable. Uniquely, I’ve included some actual Japanese Maple leaves embedded in the making of one of the papers. These inclusions came this way from the Japanese paper house that made the stock. Many of the papers I use have such organic bits in them and it just adds to the uniqueness of the artwork. Special Recognition Winner at the LightSpaceTime Gallery in Florida where it was entered in the 3D Botanical Exhibition of September 2018. A copy of the certificate will be attached with the purchase of the work as added value. This work is well suited to fitting a tall or narrow spaced wall in a room with neutral colours. I framed it in an acrylic case to allow viewing and light entry form all angles and had it tightly fitting to the dimensions of the art instead of a wide background. This has kept the overall size of Beneath its Reign to a minimum so it can appears if frameless when mounted directly on a wall. Sample views are attached.
