This abstract figurative landscape, Bathing in the Afterglow is a metaphor describing so many aspects of our lives where we experience a sense of fulfillment, completeness and one with the world. Its a particularly poignant meaning when one has worked hard for success in their life and they can now bathe in the afterglow of the rewards that come with it.

I love the terms romantic connotations used in songs and literature throughout the ages as it creates strong associations with euphoric beauty of the glow that comes after a magnificent sunset.  It leaves one with so much inner peace, comfort and optimism.

The landscape I have painted as a playground for the figures is an imaginative type of utopia. It is also partly influenced by the many classical allegorical paintings of the 17th and 18th century where there would often be a silhouetted landscape with ethereal skies illuminating a river or stream cutting through the distant landscape behind the figures in the foreground.

The clusters of figures, fragmented at times in various actions are to personify our own thoughts and deeds of what is or what may have been.

Painted in oil on deep canvas.
