Additional Information

This is an original painting of Azure Kingfishers in a Flame Tree.

They are beautiful little predators. They act so indifferent to the rest of the world and if they had eyebrows I am sure they would raise them.

I love painting the feathers on the Kingfishers. It looks like little lights in the ends of the feathers. I paint as realistically as I can and spend hours looking for the right flowers and branches to suit the dynamics of the birds. I spend hours painting in as much details as I can and often forsake dinner. I like painting the branches starkly against the background so that it almost has a 2 dimensional feel similar to Japanese prints which I love. When this is contrasted with the realism of the birds it makes the final result dramatic.

The painting is acrylic on wooden board and finished with a varnish.

It is framed and ready to hang. The frame is a hand stained wooden frame made from a recycled boat shed from Mooloolaba.
