Additional Information

When they said ‘a woman’s work is never done’ it definitely was the case during the World Wars. However on this small farm, she had loyal helpers. Her daughters sowing potato seed into the furrows. Rover chasing off the ravens that try to steal the seed. Galahad the powerful draught horse pulls the plow and the Jacaranda blooms to scent the air. The little house that she and her husband built before the children came, stands firmly waiting to welcome them in for tea.

Australian Fine Art portraying the country life of families on the land whilst the men are away at the Great War. There was hardship and there was also courage, laughter and children playing and helping in the life of farmers.

There is action in this painting, there is also singing and happiness. Also, a sure knowledge and prayer that her man will come home some day though letters are scarce and news of the front rare. Woven into the strokes are stories my grandmother told my mother of the Great War as it changed the lives of everyone in Winton.

Style
I loved painting this one and will probably keep it for my private collection. As are all my paintings, this work is painted in a representational expressionist style. To tell a story that the collector can enjoy and add to is the best for me.
