Additional Information

Adding even in small part to the wide, varying and truly wonderful body of Australian fine art has been my guiding aim and the force behind my series Reflections of Yesterday.

From that series comes ‘1910 The Cameleers‘. The camels and their handlers came from Afghanistan to open up routes through the harsh, dry red Outback which was too hot and dry for horses. So explorers looked to a similar hard, hot dry land for transport. They found the Afghanistan and their trusty stead, camels. The romance of the early explorers surviving their journeys because of these strong, drought resistant cargo carrying animals is legend. Although when the camels usefulness ran out, as trains and motorized transport ran in, they were released, free to roam at will in ever increasing herds.

There are so many wonderful stories of the riches the camels and their handlers brought to our country, I wanted to create a work that shared that time in our history.
