  • Bianca Christie Wano Women's Business 60x50.5

Additional Information

Women’s Business by Bianca Christie Wano – The women are gathering around the river creek streams upon the rocks. Near the river and rocks the women settled around together. Men are never permitted to know where and when women’s business occurs. Only the women know what they do in their tribe. The women have a yarning circle (sitting around in a group talking) to yarn about and connect with each other.

When I was 23 I lived in an Aboriginal remote community in Alice Springs (Hermannsburg). The landscape of Alice Springs was stunning, the ranges, trees, red soil, and rivers. My time in Alice Springs was one of the best experiences in my life. My work colleague and I was invited to a women’s ceremonial dance from the community women. For 5 nights I was painted up in ochre and danced with the local women and Elders in the desert. It was a sacred amazing experience and a time I never will forget. From the ceremonial dance I was given the skin name, ‘Nungarai’.

It is an Original Canvas.
