Additional Information

The Torquay Sanddunes Beach by Rod Moore – My grandparents had built a house in Torquay when I was about five years of age. We are talking early 70’s when the only surf shop on the Surfcoast Highway was a small fledgling start up by the name of Ripcurl.

The town was hardly developed at all compared to how it is today. At best guess it was about a 1/5th the size of what it is today. Even so the beaches still got busy on the weekends and during school holidays. So often we would get in the car and drive up what was then a dirt road to the Sand Dunes Beach. It was usually just a few locals there and the conditions a little wilder but it was always an adventure,
