The Mermaid was an experimental piece for a particular glaze. It was the very end of the jar and coming out of the kiln most of the colour had flaked off. Disappointed to have to sand off the loose glaze, re-glaze using a new batch of the supposedly same glaze and re-fire. One week later, the end result was an unexpected surprise, a completely different outcome and colour overlaid.  Finally, pleased with the end result – original blue coming thru, would love to re-create the same effect, accept it is a one off – luck and chance.

The mermaid has sat happily on my garden outdoor table, useful on the dining room table as a centre piece when no fresh flowers are available and handy on a windy day as a paperweight.

The mermaid is happy to gaze into the distance wherever she is.
