  • Rek Bluethumb The Exhibitionist Detail

Additional Information

The Exhibitionist is a re-visitation of REK’s ultimate animal muse “Flappy” the rescued red-tailed black cockatoo from NSW.  The Gold Acanthus Motif sees Flappy in his most smouldering incarnation to date. Painted as REK’s second entry to the 2019 annual THECA wildlife art prize.

REK continues to explore a softer and refined individualising of the feathers than seen in earlier work of the series while the familiar use of patterned fabric used as a base for The Exhibitionist remains true to the essence of REK’s signature wildlife paintings.

The exhibitionist displays full crest and beard and fixes his arresting gaze upon the viewer with his slightly exaggerated and piercing eye.

There is a starkly deeper use of colour palate and impossibly fine detail in this work than previously seen cockatoo paintings by REK as the evolution of this wildlife series continues to explore new frontiers.

This extremely limited release of only 50 fine art reproduction prints are created on Cotton Rag Paper (this is not paper at all but is in fact very fine cotton fibres woven into a paper-like product) Cotton Rag is the media of choice due to its archival qualities and similarities to the paper artists paint on.

The highest quality 300-320gsm and Printed with Canon Lucia EX Pigment inks – long lasting, archival – tested to last 80-100 years.
