The Datsun and The Sphinx by Jayne Curle (The Self Conscious Extrovert)

“If you want to build a quantum heat machine, you have to fulfil two requirements that are fundamentally contradictory. It has to be a system that consists of many particles and in which you cannot control every detail exactly”
“Is that right?” says the woman on the left, her eyes glazing over. She’s three metres from the ocean; so near yet so far.
The two women walking past, momentarily overhear the strangers’ conversation and one of them thinks “Madness certainly is close to genius and thank Christ it’s her being audibly accosted and not me.”
The guy walking up the middle of the beach is confused. He’s sure Datsuns aren’t 4WD. “Pretty reckless mate but good on ya,” he thinks to himself. The gargantuan stone monument, “Limey” to all his mates, is trying his best to look inconspicuous. One minute he was in Sphinx Alley downing shots of Fireball then suddenly he’s found himself slap bang in the middle of Burleigh; no recollection whatsoever, of how he got there. He thinks he might have a problem.
