Additional Information

Teewah Beach High Dune 1 by Lyn Graham is from a series of 20 paintings I’ve called ‘Disappearing Skylines’.

It started one day, when I was on Teewah Beach north of Noosa, looking up at the high coastal dunes. I realised they reminded me of the rusting roofs in Brisbane’s West End where I live. I thought of the beautiful corrugated iron roofs that are disappearing, making way for high-rise towers, just as the coastal dunes are eroding. I thought then of the changing deserts, the vanishing forests and the rising oceans.

In this series, I focus on the beauty of the skylines we love. They are disappearing as the climate changes and development, mining, tourism and logging ramp up.

Teewah Beach High Dune 1 is one of 2 paintings in this series that depict scenes of the beach north of Noosa Heads. It’s part of Cooloola National Park, which is very similar country to the internationally famous and World Heritage-listed Fraser Island just to the north. I regularly travel along this beach on my way to Double Island Point, where I have been a volunteer doing weeding and revegetation work for the last 20 years.

The Disappearing Skylines paintings show what I saw and felt when I visited these places. I thought of the beauty that was there and what may be there tomorrow.

I paint in oils because I love their sensuous nature and the colours they create. This oil painting is on high-quality triple-primed stretched linen canvas. It is ready to hang or, if you prefer, it can be framed in a floating wooden frame. Please contact help@artloversaustralia.com.au for framing inquiries.
