Additional Information

This stylized, contemporary piece in striking black and red is a bit of an unusual one for me. Inspired by an unexpected encounter with a Scarlet Honeyeater landing right in front of me while I was photographing something else, I was actually thinking about the beauty and fragility of our wild world when I designed this piece.

The bird is completely realistic and illustrative, its bright red head the focus of the painting. Though the actual honeyeater perched momentarily on blades of grass, in this painting the lines (drawn with pen and ink linework and stippling, to contrast the bird’s softness) call to mind something more contemporary or industrial… and the rich, warm black tones of the bird’s wing and tail feathers are contrasted by the cool, blueish-gray of the artificial environment it has found itself in. The sweeping abstract textures in the background complete the surreal design.

This artwork is not yet framed – but I can easily organise framing in Brisbane upon request. (Cost will depend on style of frame)
Though a small painting, with the right frame it will certainly stand out in your collection.
