Additional Information

Still life with rock melon, basket with fruit, ceremonial jug by Jos Kivits.

Born in the Netherlands where he studied and trained, Jos has now become internationally recognized as an Australian Artist since his arrival in 1986.

Kivits’ paintings are pure and honest and every brushstroke speaks of his unfailing dedication to the traditions of the masters – layer upon layer, stroke by stroke.
No spray painted short cuts or computer aided correction, no pre gridded lines, projection, camera obscura, or anything considered ‘modern’ is used in his work; only a setup of objects, flowers, people or imagination will pass muster.

Jos’ work can really only be appreciated when seen in real life. A photograph has the tendency to show the top layer and not the depth revealed through the thin transparent layers of glaze which ultimately creates an unsatisfactory flat representation due to the limitations of a camera lens. Put simply, photos do not do this kind of art justice. It is also for this reason that reproduced copies of his work do not do them justice either, and although unauthorized, some have surfaced over time and even sold on auction as real – which is a scathing criticism on the art knowledge of some ‘experts’.

This piece is original and authentic. Signed on the front and back, named, numbered for database entry with a certificate on the reverse. The artist’s classification is AAA.* and is from the artist private collection. Painted in 2005 and several times perfected and varnished over the years. This very work has never been exhibited, although one similar depicting different objects was revealed in Jos’ 2018 exhibition.

The style and technique is considered ‘Classical European’ and first exposed to Australia by some well-known earlier artists like Hans Heysen, Arthur Streeton, & Besie Davidson.

The works of Jos have been Curated and priced by Armand Akoun, France. See “Le cote des peintres 2020”.

The harmony of colour and composition are according to the style of the ageless Dutch and Flemish masters. Graded AAA.
*Kivits Brand Grade Classification is to differentiate the level of excellence. Fecit, ‘original work’ by this artist.
Studies and earlier works are usually graded ‘A or A+.’  Good average to mature, being; ‘AA’ grade. Masterpiece ‘AAA.’

This would also effect potential investment and retail price.
