Additional Information

My painting of quince blossom was inspired by painting en plein air at Blackwood Forest Recreation Park.

Blackwood Forest Recreation Park was first acquired by the government in 1908 for use as an experimental orchard.  It was established to trial and experiment with a wide range of fruit trees to determine which varieties most suited our climate. In 1927 there were over 4 000 varieties of fruit trees. The park continued to be used for horticultural research until the 1960s.

I was immediately attracted to the beautiful blossoms of the quince trees.  Last summer I made quince paste from foraged fruit from another location.  It was delicious, but I failed to use enough sugar, and it went mouldy.
