Peace Inside Anxiety: Raining Series by Kate Constantine – work on canvas; acrylic paint
1970 X 1400 X 50mm

April 2020

DIDACTIC:

Note: I am still seeking the correct language translation for the title of this work.

The background of the piece was created at the outbreak of COVID19 and when my family decided to take the early path of self-isolation. At the point of completion we were ending our third week. I have been unwell and my baby boy had surgery recently, his immune system is compromised. The anxiety is real! Am I doing enough to care, school, love and entertain my babes. Am I doing enough to keep my relationship alive, my friendships going, answering all the calls and texts. My mother is sick and for the first time it seems overtly relevant for me to push her to retire.

And then there is the silence in the quiet times, in gardening with my babies, building pea teepees, weeding, creating race tracks and birthing baby chicks.

We are whole, but we are in total juxtaposition of ourselves and the lives we have created (manufactured) and what is real is connection, love and family. And that shit sparkles! For the first time ever Ive gone shiny on a classic piece, and during this time, space and place – it feels good!
