The Story

This painting was created 100% plein air on the sand dunes of Nobby’s beach, Newcastle NSW. I arrived on site around 7am to an unfortunately cloudless morning which made for a piercing sun. By 11 am the bulk of the painting was blocked in and ready for details, which were completed at a different vantage -under the shade of the surf house. See https://www.societyofartistsnewcastle.com/recent-activities.html for pictures of this painting in progress on site.

The Materials and Process

Artist grade oils were painted into canvas using a combination of brush and palate knife work. This painting is on a 40×30 canvas board. I use these for my plein air painting, as they fit perfectly in my Pochade for transporting when wet. After a day’s work, the board is slotted into a wooden Pochade to prevent anything from smudging or sticking to the oil paint.

This painting comes to you varnished and unframed.
